We built Fledgr — and launched it from a CGC Landran hostel room

The idea started with a problem that felt small but kept bothering us. Seniors graduate and everything they knew — placement insights, study strategies, honest advice about companies, the 3 AM thoughts that turned into something useful — disappears into WhatsApp archives and farewell posts that nobody reads a year later.

We tried Medium for a while. Medium is designed for an international audience. A post titled 'How I got placed at TCS Digital from CGC Landran' gets zero distribution there. The writer writes it anyway because they want someone from their college to find it. Nobody does.

We started coding in December 2025, in C Block common room after everyone else had gone to bed. The first version was just a text editor and a feed. No auth, no profiles, no anything. We showed it to five friends. One of them wrote about her Wipro internship experience. That small feed — five posts, all from people we knew — felt more real than anything we'd seen on any existing platform.

The build took four months of evenings and weekends. The UI went from 'functional' to something we could actually be proud of by January. We launched on our college's internal community channels first, then on Fledgr's own launch portal on May 12th.

What we got wrong early: we underestimated how much students want to write anonymously. Chirps became the most active part of the platform before any of the authored content did. We're building both in parallel now.

Fledgr is for every Indian campus. Writing from CGC Landran should reach someone at Thapar or DTU or IIT Bombay if it's useful to them — not because we got lucky on an algorithm, but because the platform was built with that goal from day one.
